Flat lay, you say?

Flat lay

Needing design inspiration? Stuck in a color rut? Look no further than this. Why not start with a flat lay? You can use this as content for your social media or in your design studio. Here’s a quick tutorial on how to get started and set your design mood. We are using our Transformation design theme for 2022 to kick us off in the Flat Lays below.

First, start by collecting samples of items you are drawn most to like paint chips, flooring samples, hardware, wallpaper clippings, cabinet or countertop chips. Then play. Mix and match to create your vision. You can go neutral and serene as seen below … and then there’s that pop of navy y’all!

Texture and layering add dimension and depth!

We asked our hard surface designers who created these flat lays where they got their inspo. Alex Moody had this to say about his Grounded Loft flat lay below. “This palette is ME 100%. I LOVE these pairings. You can feel the softness and tranquility of these finishes with the lightened oak color Great Basin, soft finish of Vesper tile and paired with the quiet detail in Metanoia. This palette is an evolution of modern Zen and Scandi looks, bringing fresh finishes and tones to a very strong style foundation. You just can't go wrong.”

Taylor Weckerly, hard surface designer, shared what inspired her Metamorphosis Flat Lay. “Metamorphosis: Transforming the home into something bold and uniquely YOU! Shapes and color are chosen to represent your personal style. Bright Pinks, deep teal colors or even pops of black offer something different. Be your individual self and choose what represents you in your home.”

Pro Tip: Add succulents, beads, or anything aesthetically pleasing that you’d like to incorporate into the design. Check out Miriam Ritter’s flat lay. She is the owner/designer for Xelina Interiors. Miriam is featuring Shaw Lifeguard Blue carpet in color Washed Linen on Instagram. Love that use of natural light (and the cute toes!) Follow her work at @xelina_interiors

Lastly, make sure you have good lighting. Use a professional camera or even your cell phone and start snapping aerial pictures from the top down against a white or inspired backdrop as seen here from Piper Stromatt of Curate Homes on TikTok. She creatively featured our Naïve tile and Oasis Oak hardwood. Follow Piper at @curate_boutiqueliving

Feeling inspired yet? I sure am! Create your own mini studio. Give it a go. It will take a few tries through trial and error to make sure there’s no glare or shadows. But anything worth doing is worth doing right. Share your flat lays with us at #shawfloors. We can’t wait to see!
